Re: Port Facilities at False Bay, Lasqueti Island, British Columbia

Dear Minister Anand:

I am writing on behalf of the Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee to urgently request that Transport
Canada provide funding for the inspection and repair/replacement of the False Bay Dock on Lasqueti
Island.

The dock facilities at this location are very old, and in need of serious renovations, if not complete
replacement. It is possibly unsafe and it has been quite some time since any work of substance has been
done on the dock or wharf. While federal funding has been provided to upgrade other facilities in this
region, which are not such vital points of access, the False Bay facility continues to degrade.

This dock is not a small craft harbour, but we are hearing questions from users of the False Bay facility
and local constituents about why the False Bay Dock has not received funding from the 2024 budget for
small craft harbours, or other Transport Canada funding schemes.

Residents and visitors to Lasqueti Island rely on this facility for our ferry service. It is our lifeline and
connection to all off island services, including medical evacuations and the RCMP. The dock is the only
public connection for residents to the rest of Canada, and is a vital part of our community. As Lasqueti
Island has almost no services, only a cafe, pub, and gas station, the port facilities are a vital point of
access to/from this remote community.

Residents and visitors deserve a safe and reliable facility. We urgently request that the dock facility at
False Bay be added to the next round of funding for repair and/or reconstruction.
