ADOPTED Lasqueti Island ADOPTED 1 Local Trust Committee Minutes August 29, 2022 Lasqueti Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: August 29, 2022 Judith Fisher Centre #1 China Cloud Bay Road Lasqueti Island, BC Members Present: Peter Johnston, Local Trustee by Zoom Timothy Peterson, Local Trustee Laura Patrick, Chair Staff Present: Heather Kauer, Regional Planning Manager by Zoom Katherine Vogt, Recorder by Zoom William Shulba, Senior Freshwater Specialist by Zoom Others Present: Andrew Fall, Regional Director by Zoom Approximately three (3) members of the public 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Patrick called the meeting to order at 11:03 am. She acknowledged that the meeting was being held in territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. She introduced Trustees, Staff, and Recorder and welcomed Director Andrew Fall and members of the public. She noted that the meeting was being livestreamed and recorded, and that a recording of the meeting would be available on the Islands Trust website in a few days. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA By general consent the agenda was approved as presented. 3. RISE AND REPORT - IN CAMERA MEETINGS OF APRIL 26, 2021 Chair Patrick reported that the in-camera minutes of April 26, 2021 were approved. 4. REPORTS 4.1 Trustee Reports Trustee Peterson reported on the following: The recent plaque unveiling at Squitty Bay Park was a successful reconciliation event and well attended by many locals and First Nations representatives. Trustee Johnston reported on the following: The clam garden visits planned for the Squitty Bay plaque unveiling did not occur because of inclement weather; so, another successful reconciliation event was held at False Bay in mid-August, attended by about 20 Qualicum and Snaw-naw-as First Nations people of all ages, who expressed great appreciation for being invited and ADOPTED Lasqueti Island ADOPTED 2 Local Trust Committee Minutes August 29, 2022 shown some local evidence of their ancestors’ lives on Lasqueti. Approximately 60 Lasqueti residents and visitors also attended. No public responses have been received to recently published information regarding the Fees Bylaw. 4.2 Chair's Report Chair Patrick reported on the following: The recent Trust Council meeting at which a significant resolution was passed to request that the Province review the mandate, governance and structure of the Islands Trust. The next Trust Council meeting will be September 20-22, 2022; it will be virtual; and the Town Hall portion will most likely be held on the evening of the 20 th . 4.3 Electoral Area Director's Report Director Andrew Fall reported on the following: The Vancouver Island Regional Library recently opened an architecturally stunning new branch in Sooke; however, going forward, increasing construction costs will necessitate more modest designs.
