Salish View Campaign Welcomes Matching Funds  
Deadline approaches for protecting old-growth trees on Lasqueti Island  
 
Lasqueti Island, British Columbia, November 5, 2018   An Islands Trust Conservancy pledge to match donations will 
boost a fundraising campaign to protect old-growth trees on Lasqueti Island. The Islands Trust Conservancy will match 
donations received by December 21, 2018 up to a total of $4,500.  
 
The Islands Trust Conservancy and the Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy are partners in an ambitious one-year 
campaign to raise $250,000 to permanently protect an 11 hectare old-growth Coastal Douglas-fir forest known as 
Salish View. The partners have two months left to raise the final $80,000 needed to buy the property. 
 
“We hope this matching grant will inspire people everywhere to give,” said Gordon Scott, President of the Lasqueti 
Island Nature Conservancy. “The opportunity to protect this incredibly important property is now. There are so many 
reasons to give: climate change, rare species, one of the most beautiful views in the region and many more. We all 
benefit from the conservation of forested areas like Salish View.” 
 
“Protecting forests is an essential part of the fight against climate change,” said Dr. Ken Lertzman, Professor in the 
School of Resource and Environmental Management, Simon Fraser University. “The forests represented in Salish View 
are rare and represent one of British Columbia’s most heavily developed ecosystems.” 
The Salish View property is adjacent to Squitty Bay Provincial Park and rises above Lasqueti Island’s rocky southern 
coastline to a prominent ridgetop with a stunning 270-degree vista of the Salish Sea. Once protected, the property will 
be open to the public, offering residents and visitors opportunities for walking on nature trails through beautiful old-
growth trees and rocky bluffs to the viewpoint.  
Donations made to the Salish View campaign through the Islands Trust Conservancy’s Lasqueti Island Acquisition Fund 
will be matched dollar for dollar to a maximum of $4,500 total. To make a donation, visit
