The journey is part of the bill

2026-11-02

Make room for the people who keep our islands working. A service call can bring more than a bill for the work. There may be travel, ferries or an overnight stay too. Those costs matter to the people who need the service.

One named offer: $770 before tax and extra work

Compass Electric lists $390 for routine yearly service of an air-cooled standby generator up to 26 kW. A visit to just one island property adds $380. Together that is $770 before GST and extra work. The offer names Salt Spring, Pender, Galiano, Saturna and Mayne. Shared visits may split the travel cost.

These terms have no date on the source. We saw them on 1 November 2026. This is one supplier's offer. It is not an average bill or a paid invoice.

Compare pay, then read the service terms

Our work-cost page covers all 516 job groups in Job Bank's 19 November 2025 snapshot. Search a job. Choose median or mean pay. Compare Canada, BC, Lower Mainland–Southwest, and Vancouver Island and Coast.

Each estimate keeps its source, period and unit. These are broad regions. The Vancouver benchmark covers more than the city. Island and Coast covers more than Vancouver Island. This source has no separate job-pay series for each Gulf Island.

Pay gaps go both ways. Travel charges give a direct example of access costs. The page also has a public Salt Spring quote and older project estimates. Read the date and terms beside each record. All 13 town sites have a local island view.

We want homes working people can afford, room for local firms and a strong year-round workforce. Use the data to press that case. Follow the sources and download the figures.
