Can our kids build a life here?

In 2025 the Trust's own North Pender committee backed a Housing Action Plan. The plan looks back at the old way of planning in the Trust Area. It says that zoned land “almost exclusively” for single-family homes. That left few choices for people who cannot buy.

What we found

The plan itself says who needs more kinds of homes. Older people. Families. Workers. That is the Trust's own body owning up to what the old zoning did. It is not proof that anyone set out to hurt families.

  1. The action plan looks back at the old zoning. The words it uses: “almost exclusively” single-family.
  2. It says this left few choices for people who cannot buy a home. Who needs other choices? It names older people, families and workers among them.
  3. House prices matter too. So do building costs, pipes and power, ferries, jobs, and what the higher governments decide. All of it shapes who can make a life on an island.

The demand

Count the homes that get built. Count what kinds. Then make the local planning body answer for what the count shows.
