People live here.

Section 3 says why the Trust exists. It names the islands and their environment, but not housing. It says the work is for people here and across B.C. Other parts of the law do give the Trust duties to plan for homes.

What we found

Land rules shape where people can live. The law puts protection first in the Trust's object. It also gives the Trust duties to plan for homes. We want a clear account of how those duties help house people and protect the islands.

  1. Section 3 of the law says why the Trust exists. The job is to preserve and protect three things. The Trust Area. Its unique amenities. And its environment.
  2. The same sentence says who that work is for. It is for the people who live here. And for British Columbia as a whole.
  3. B.C. law would still apply. We ask the Province to keep local rules in force until the next body can lawfully change them. The law that makes the change must say so. A new government alone would not pay for or build homes.

The demand

Protect the islands. Make room for the people. Keep the green rules we have while the change happens. And make the people who plan the land answer for homes too.
