Re: Tribune Bay Park Recreation Enhancements 
Dear BC Parks and Haley Datoo, 
Thank you for your referral and letter which the Hornby Island Local Trust Committee (LTC) received on May 30, 
2023 detailing the planned Tribune Bay Park expansion and enhancements. Over the last 18 months the LTC has 
received significant public communication about the project. Islands Trust staff and the LTC advised members of 
the public of the opportunity to provide BC Parks with feedback via the “Help Shape BC” website.  
At its regular business meeting of June 14, 2024, the Hornby Island Local Trust Committee (LTC) passed 
the following resolution:  
That the Hornby Island Local Trust Committee request staff to send a letter to BC 
Parks to express concerns heard from the public regarding: 
1) The process of community consultation; 
2) Changing work plan; 
3) Location of campsites and wetland area; 
4) Volume and number of truckloads of gravel and rocks; and 
5) Additional issues of zoning. 
 
We appreciate the August 2024 project update posted to the https://helpshapebc.gov.bc.ca/tribune  
which states that due to the geographic location of Tribune Bay Park, existing campground facilities, and 
BC Parks’ commitment to balancing the diversity of values in the park, the Tribune Bay campground 
redevelopment project is one of the most complex projects BC Parks’ has undertaken. We understand  
that to ensure the project is delivered successfully, the Province is reconsidering the schedule and 
timeline of certain project phases, and has cancelled the request for proposals to undertake the 
improvements. 
We understand that as BC Parks reconsiders the proposed project phases, schedule and timelines, BC 
Parks anticipates that the design will not substantially change, however, project timelines, order of 
construction phases and annual budget allocations are being reconsidered.
