ADOPTED Gabriola Island ADOPTED 1 Local Trust Committee Minutes July 28, 2022 le Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: July 28, 2022 Gabriola Arts & Heritage Centre 476 South Road, Gabriola Island, BC Members Present: Dan Rogers, Chair Kees Langereis, Local Trustee Scott Colbourne, Local Trustee Sonja Zupanec, Island Planner by Zoom Anthony Fotino, Island Planner by Zoom Stephen Baugh, Planner 2 by Zoom Katherine Vogt, Recorder by Zoom Others Present Vanessa Craig, Electoral Area Director Approximately seven (7) members of the public 1. CALL TO ORDER “Please note, the order of agenda items may be modified during the meeting. Times are provided for convenience only and are subject to change.” Chair Rogers called the meeting to order at 10:32 am. He introduced Trustees, Staff, and recorder; and welcomed members of the public. Chair Rogers, Trustee Colbourne, and Trustee Langereis acknowledged that the meeting was being held in territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. Chair Rogers noted that the meeting was a hybrid of in person and electronic participation, but without electronic public participation; and, that the meeting was being livestreamed with a 25 second delay; and, that it was being recorded for addition to the Islands Trust website. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The following additions to the agenda were presented for consideration: Move item 7.2 Memorandum to after item 10.4. By general consent the agenda was approved as amended. 3. RISE AND REPORT Chair Rogers noted that there was nothing to rise and report because there had been no in- camera meeting in June, 2022. 4. REPORTS 4.1 Trustee Reports Trustee Colbourne reported on the following: ADOPTED Gabriola Island ADOPTED 2 Local Trust Committee Minutes July 28, 2022 The online June 2022 Trust Council meeting at which Trustee Colbourne’s motion to have the Provincial Government review the Islands Trust Act was passed with 20 votes. A recent meeting with Snuneymuxw Chief, Council and Staff at which it was expressed that the elders no longer want to repatriate the remains of loved ones; and at which gratitude was expressed for the Islands Trust for their contributions to the formal agreement between Snuneymuxw First Nations and BC Ferries which was to be signed today. Trustee Langereis reported on the following: The passing of the motion to review the Islands Trust Act and the establishment of a Standing Governance Committee at the last Trust Council meeting should prove beneficial. A recent site visit to the old gravel pit near Whalebone regarding Provincial rezoning and provision for a green burial site. An upcoming Trust Programs Committee meeting on August 26, 2022 regarding the Trust Policy Statement and other recent recommendations.
