Saturna Local Trust Committee Electronic Business Meeting Minutes February 18, 2021 ADOPTED Page 1 of 6 Saturna Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: February 18, 2021 Electronic Meeting (Zoom Webinar) Members Present: Laura Patrick, Chair Lee Middleton, Local Trustee Paul Brent, Local Trustee Staff Present: Robert Kojima, Regional Planning Manager Brad Smith, Senior Planner Phil Testemale, Planner 2 William Shulba, Freshwater Specialist Carly Bilney, Recorder Maple Hung, Planning Assistant (Host) Public: There were approximately 3 attendees in the Zoom Webinar. 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Patrick called the meeting to order at 11:33 a.m. She acknowledged that the meeting was being held in traditional territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA By general consent the agenda was approved as presented. 3. TRUSTEE REPORT Trustee Middleton reported on the following: A committee has been established to seek a consultant in its review of the Islands Trust; The review is seeking to assess how well the Islands Trust is achieving its mandate to preserve and protect; and The review is designed to build the Islands Trust's organizational sustainability. Trustee Brent reported on the following: As alternate director for the Capital Regional District (CRD), Trustee Brent has attended Parks and Recreation Commission meetings as well as meetings related to water service, First Nations topics, transportation, finance and regional issues; and There are many opportunities for increased collaboration between the Regional District and the Islands Trust. 4. CHAIR'S REPORT AD O P T E D Saturna Local Trust Committee Electronic Business Meeting Minutes February 18, 2021 ADOPTED Page 2 of 6 Chair Patrick reported on the following: The next Trust Council meeting is scheduled for March 9-11; There is an open house meeting scheduled for March 3, which will include an opportunity to submit questions related to the policy statement work; and The budget will be passed at the March meeting. 5. TOWN HALL AND QUESTIONS Town Hall was held and the following comments were made: Support was expressed for SA-DVP-2020.1 (Peretz); Support was expressed for including an ecological consideration in assessing SA-DVP- 2020.1 (Peretz); Trustees were urged to continue the work begun to resolve parking issues near the Saturna Point Store; and A desire was expressed for the Local Trust Committee (LTC) to set ecological baselines that can be measured against in the future. 6.
