Re: Letter of Support for the Denman Seniors and Museum Society’s grant application to the New
Horizons for Seniors Program to support infrastructure maintenance at the Denman Activity
Centre

To whom it may concern,

The Denman Island Local Trust Committee (LTC) is aware that the Denman Seniors and Museum Society
is in pursuit of funding from the New Horizons Seniors Program to facilitate floor refinishing at the Denman
Activity Centre. At the June 6, 2019 meeting of the Denman Island LTC, the following resolution was
passed:

DE-2019-060
It was MOVED and SECONDED,
that the Denman Island Local Trust Committee request that the Chair write a letter to
support the grant application being made by the Denman Seniors and Museum Society
under the New Horizons for Seniors Program.
CARRIED

The LTC recognizes the importance of community services on Denman Island, such as those provided by
the Denman Activity Centre.

Denman Island’s Official Community Plan, the policy document that guides land use planning on the
island, reflects the community’s interest in supporting the social fabric and community services:

Section D.1 Services, Education and Culture
Guiding Objective To support community-based fire, ambulance, health and support services, to
encourage cultural enrichment and community education facilities and services,
and to realise the need for many diverse community activities.

Objective 1 To support the provision of emergency services and educational and cultural
facilities on Denman Island.

Bowen Denman Hornby Gabriola Galiano Gambier Lasqueti Mayne North Pender Salt Spring Saturna South Pender Thetis

Objective 2 To support land use for community health facilities and health service provisions.

Objective 3 To permit a variety of institutional uses to meet the social, educational, religious
and other needs of the community at large.

As the local government responsible for land use planning on Denman Island, the LTC strongly supports
the work of the Denman Seniors and Museum Society and their efforts to secure funding to assist with
infrastructure maintenance at the Activity Centre.

Sincerely,

Sue Ellen Fast
Chair, Denman Island Local Trust Committee
