GALIANO ISLAND LOCAL TRUST COMMITTEE BUSINESS MEETING AGENDA TO COMMENCE AT 1:00 PM, MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2012 AT THE SOUTH COMMUNITY HALL 141 STURDIES BAY ROAD, GALIANO ISLAND, B.C LATE AGENDA ITEMS 8. CORRESPONDENCE (attached) 8.2 Correspondence Regarding Dewinetz Proposal 8.5 R. Smith Feb 7 2012 re Bylaw Enforcement 8.6 T. Ramond & R. Longini letter dated February 12, 2012 re: BC Hydro Smart Meters (petition not posted on Website Last December, Richard and Evelyn Dewinetz circulated a letter in which a “simple and reasonable solution” to the problem of “homes on forest lots” was proposed to our trustees. This solution may appear simple but I don’t think it is reasonable or fair. Many of the forest lots have already been subdivided into 20 a. or even smaller sized lots. Would the owners who held on to their original lots of 110 or 160 Acres not want to be granted the same density? According to the letter, Richard and Evelyn’s Foundation will donate one million dollars to community organizations if the trustees successfully implement a policy by May 19 th allowing one house on each forest lot. At a time when a number of local organizations are struggling to raise necessary funds, such an offer clearly has a strong appeal. It certainly is an unusual process for the drafting of bylaws. Galiano has only recently completed a review of its Official Community Plan which was enthusiastically supported at a Public Hearing. The next step will be drafting Galiano’s Land Use Bylaws. I ask you, as my elected Trustees, to be guided by our OCP, rather than by offers of cash, in regulating the development of the forest lands. Respectfully Yours, Ursula Deshield 1 Kathy Jones From: j.mueller@telus.net Sent: February-04-12 4:04 PM To: glltcwebmail Cc: j.mueller@telus.net Subject: Galiano Island Local Trust Committee February 04, 2012 From: Juergen Mueller Email: j.mueller@telus.net Subject: Galiano Island Local Trust Committee Dear Local Trust Committee, I am writing in support of the Dewinetz proposal. For twenty years the community has been awaiting a reasonable solution to the forest lands issue. Surely a $1,000,000.00 to the community for a single house on each forest lot, something we all say we are in agreement about, is just such a reasonable solution. I would ask you to take this offer seriously and bring this matter to a successful conclusion. yours, Juergen Mueller www.islandstrust.bc.ca 1 Kathy Jones From: mariamiar@yahoo.com Sent: February-05-12 6:34 PM To: glltcwebmail Cc: mariamiar@yahoo.com Subject: Galiano Island Local Trust Committee February 05, 2012 From: Mia Rivera Email: mariamiar@yahoo.com Subject: Galiano Island Local Trust Committee Dear Local Trust Committee, I believe the Dewinetz proposal is both a fair offer and solution to the forest lands issue. Please use this offer to bring to a close the 20 years Galiano has been waiting for a res
