[0:00:00] Voice 10: I'd like to begin by acknowledging that we are meeting across lands long stewarded by many Coast Salish nations.

[0:00:08] Voice 10: I'm joining you today from Galeano Island, which is within core ancestral territory of the Penelope tribe.

[0:00:16] Voice 10: But what does it mean when we speak of ancestral lands?

[0:00:21] Voice 10: In the Ojibwe language, there is a word,

[0:00:26] Voice 10: which means both great-grandparent and great-grandchild, those that come before us and those who come after us.

[0:00:35] Voice 10: In other words, we are always in a relationship with both across time.

[0:00:41] Voice 10: When we acknowledge the land, we're also acknowledging those relationships.

[0:00:46] Voice 10: Our ancestors that shaped and cared for these places and our descendants who depend on us to do the same.

[0:00:54] Voice 10: and to continue on with that care and in kinship.

[0:00:59] Voice 10: Anakuba Jigen, one word with so much meaning and understanding of the land.

It was MOVED and SECONDED, 
that the Islands Trust Conservancy meeting be closed to the public in accordance with 
the Community Charter, Part 4 Division 3, section: 90 (1) (e) the acquisition, disposition 
or expropriation of land or improvements, as the board considers that disclosure could 
reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the Islands Trust Conservancy Board; 
and that staff remain in the meeting. Also, section 91(k) negotiations and related 
discussions respecting the proposed provision of a service that are at their preliminary 
stages and that, in the view of the board, could reasonably be expected to harm the 
interests of the Islands Trust Conservancy Board if they were held in public.
