Galiano Local Trust Committee Regular Meeting Minutes May 2, 2022 ADOPTED Page 1 of 8 Galiano Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: May 2, 2022 Galiano South Community Hall 141 Sturdies Bay Road, Galiano Island, BC Members Present: Dan Rogers, Chair Jane Wolverton, Trustee Staff Present: Robert Kojima, Regional Planning Manager William Shulba, Senior Freshwater Specialist (via Zoom) Phil Testemale, Planner 2 (via Zoom) Carly Bilney, Recorder Regrets: Tahirih Rockafella, Trustee Public Present: There were approximately 23 members of the public present. 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Rogers called the meeting to order at 12:30 pm and noted that Trustee Rockafella is unable to join the meeting due to illness. Trustee Wolverton acknowledged that the meeting was being held in the traditional territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. She commented on how land acknowledgements do not exist in a past context and that colonialism is an ongoing problem. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The following additions to the agenda were presented for consideration: Rise and Report from the April 4, 2022 In-Camera meeting; There is no delegation presenting under Item 10; and An addendum under correspondence, Item 11.3 – Galiano Island CREST Site 1228 Montague Road – Letter from Rogers Communication with APC Chair Response. By general consent the agenda was approved as amended. A D O P T E D Galiano Local Trust Committee Regular Meeting Minutes May 2, 2022 ADOPTED Page 2 of 8 Chair Rogers provided a rise and report on the appointment of two new members to the Galiano Advisory Planning Commission (APC) – Jeannine Georgeson and Sherri Moore-Arbour. He also reported on the appointment of three members of the Galiano Board of Variance – Priscilla Zimmerman, Bert Hol and Priscilla Ewbank. 3. TRUSTEE REPORT Trustee Wolverton reported: A meeting of the Southern Gulf Islands Forum is scheduled for July to continue discussion of anchorages in the region; Bylaw problems have arisen related to tree-cutting; The presentation of the EcoFootprint project by the Galiano Conservancy Association is scheduled for June 5-12 at the Yellowhouse; Two people from Galiano have been nominated for Community Stewardship Awards; and Census results show an increase in population on Galiano with a drop in the overall average age of residents. 4. CHAIR'S REPORT Chair Rogers reported: Consultants are now completing a report based on recently held Trust Policy Statement engagement and recommendations will go to the Trust’s Programs Committee and then to Trust Council; The Community Stewardship Awards will now be awarded once per term (opposed to once a year as previously); and The Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference held at the end of April by Western Washington University’s Salish Sea Institute included discussion of a number of marin
