Summary of Referral: 
 
The attached report and request to rename Halkett Bay dock was considered by SCRD Planning and 
Community Development Committee in July 2020.  The request to rename the dock was made by the 
Fircom / Sunset Owners Society on Gambier Island.  
 
The rationale for changing the name includes preventing confusion about the location of the dock. The 
Halkett Bay dock is not located within Halkett Bay. Further, there is a dock with the same name within 
nearby Halkett Bay Marine Park. Dock renaming is seen as a critical update to prevent confusion 
emergency first response services and other dock users. 
 
The SCRD Planning and Community Development Committee recommended referrals to gather feedback 
on the requested name change from Halkett Bay Dock, to Fircom Dock.  
 
Feedback is requested from your committee or organization, by email, at your earliest convenience, before 
September 30, 2021.
