Dear Stuart,

Re: Wharf Road and Degnen Bay Road on Gabriola Island

The Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee recently conducted a review of its water taxi zoning regulations.
Community consultation for this project identified the following locations as important water taxi access routes:

 Wharf Road and the adjoining private road, providing access to Green Wharf (Regional District of
Nanaimo public wharf) on Gabriola Island (note: the private road access is located on the property legally
described as THE SOUTH PART OF THE SOUTH EAST ¼, SECTION 10, GABRIOLA ISLAND, NANAIMO
DISTRICT AS SHOWN ON CROWN GRANT (DD 1763), EXCEPT PARTS ON PLANS 7908, 12887, 20670, 21652,
27576 AND EPP22670 (PID 000-648-396)); and
 Degnen Bay Road, providing access to the public wharf (operated by the Degnen Bay Harbour Authority)
and other group moorage facilities in Degnen Bay.

Community consultation further indicates that there are ongoing safety and accessibility concerns with both of
these access routes. In response to these concerns and in the interest of ensuring the safety of pedestrians and
motorists alike, the Local Trust Committee would like to request that the Ministry of Transportation and
Infrastructure investigate the safety and accessibility of Degnen Bay Road and Wharf Road and to address these
concerns where appropriate. The Local Trust Committee further requests a written reply regarding any actions to
be taken in response to these concerns, via email to gabriolaislandlocaltrustcommittee@islandstrust.bc.ca.
Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Laura Busheikin, Chair
Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee
