NEW BUSINESS 13.2 Letter of Congratulations to New Chief of Snuneymuxw First Nation, Mike Wyse and Council - for discussion Kit and George Szanto Gabriola, BC V0R 1X6 December 12, 2017 TO: Gabriola Land and Trails Trust CC: Regional District of Nanaimo Islands Trust RE: Trail connecting Lockinvar Lane and Gabriola Medical Clinic As the owners of the property at 708 Lockinvar Lane, we are writing to ask for your help in sharing the following information with the Gabriola community. Specifically, we want the people who have historically used the pathway that runs along one side of our lot to understand what is happening right now. (The path is a short piece of the trail that connects Lockinvar and the Medical Clinic.) We have owned the property for 24 years and have always been happy to leave the pathway open for public use. As we have now begun construction on the lot, however, we have to ask the community to use another access point and not cross over the construction site. This is for safety reasons, given the people and equipment that will be operating there. As you know, we greatly support GaLLT and the use of public trails on Gabriola, and hope that once construction is completed (by the end of 2018) a new route can be created. We understand that this does not fall under the oversight of GaLLT, the RDN, or the Islands Trust. We are simply asking for your help in sharing our sentiments and concerns with any affected members of the community. We’ll also be sharing this information in other ways.
