Older Islanders deserve accessible government.

The accessibility obligation applied to Islands Trust on September 1, 2023. On August 24, 2026, its own page still said the accessibility plan was being drafted and was not available for public input.

What the record proves

The delay is documented. So is the scale of the records problem: our full-library census attempted 8,998 PDFs; 6,313 of 8,990 parsable files failed at least one of four basic automated checks.

  1. The Accessible B.C. framework requires prescribed organizations to maintain an accessibility committee, plan and feedback mechanism.
  2. The Trust has a committee and feedback channel, but its public page still described the plan as a draft nearly three years after the prescribed date.
  3. The PDF census is a screening result—not a WCAG conformance audit and not an unreadability finding.

The demand

Publish the plan, test with people with disabilities, remediate high-use records first and report progress in plain language.
