Whereas the Salt Spring Island LTC (SSI LTC), like so many BC communities, anticipated being included in relevant Homes for People actions. Whereas the SSI LTC was disappointed to learn that only properties within one of the 161 incorporated municipalities are eligible for the Secondary Suite Incentive Program, as announced on September 18, 2023. Therefore be it resolved, that the SSI LTC: 1) request staff to urgently prepare a letter from the LTC chair to the BC Housing Minister expressing the LTC's disappointment for Salt Spring Island residents being ineligible for the Secondary Suite Incentive Program and requesting this oversight be remedied and to request that Salt Spring be included within other Homes for People Actions suitable to rural island communities; and 2) request Trust Council to add a late item to its September 2023 meeting agenda an item to discuss advocating to the Province for Homes for People Actions that support rural island communities.” On behalf of the SS LTC I am expressing the disappointment for Salt Spring Island residents being ineligible for the Secondary Suite Incentive Program and requesting this oversight be remedied and to request that Salt Spring be included within other Homes for People Actions suitable to rural island communities.
