Islands Trust Council elects new Executive Committee and Islands Trust Conservancy Board members

 ʷəŋən, METULIYE/Victoria, B.C. – At its first meeting since local elections in October, Islands Trust Council has elected a 
chair and three vice-chairs to form the Islands Trust Executive Committee for the 2022-2026 term. Council has also 
elected two representatives to sit on the Islands Trust Conservancy Board.  
 
The Chair of the Islands Trust Council remains Peter Luckham from the Thetis Island Local Trust Area, now serving his 
third term as chair. The three new vice-chairs are Trustee Tobi Elliott from the Gabriola Island Local Trust Area, Trustee 
David Maude from the Mayne Island Local Trust Area, and Trustee Timothy Peterson from the Lasqueti Island Local Trust 
Area. Trust Council has also elected Trustee Grant Scott from the Hornby Island Island Local Trust Area and Trustee Susan 
Yates from the Gabriola Island Local Trust Area to serve on the Islands Trust Conservancy Board. Islands Trust 
Conservancy is the conservation land trust for over 450 islands of the Salish Sea and is a part of Islands Trust. On Saturday 
afternoon, the Executive Committee elected Vice-Chair Tobi Elliott as its representative to the Islands Trust Conservancy.  
 
These elections took place on Saturday, following a session on Friday where nominees made presentations and answered 
questions from trustees about the skills and values they would bring to these leadership positions. 
 
While the entire Islands Trust Council meets quarterly, the Executive Committee oversees the daily business of the Islands 
Trust. It has legislated responsibilities to consider approval of bylaws developed by local trust committees and Bowen 
Island Municipality. Members also serve as chairs of twelve local trust committees that have authority for land use 
planning and regulation in the Islands Trust Area. The Chair of the Islands Trust Council will appoint the chairs of the 
individual local trust committees on November 23, 2022.

Luckham on his re-election. “I look forward to working with the vice-chairs who were chosen from amongst a group of 
worthy candidates. During the presentations yesterday, we heard the impassioned voices of trustees who are eager to 
tackle the important issues we face including, affordable housing, climate change, and environmental sustainability. We 
also heard a deep desire to further reconciliation and improve communications and engagement with communities, and
