Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee NOTICE TO WAIVE PUBLIC HEARING Proposed Bylaw No. 310 LUB Amendments to Expand Community Uses in IN1 Zone NOTICE is hereby given that the Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee is waiving a public hearing for: Proposed Bylaw No. 310, cited as “Gabriola Island Land Use Bylaw, 1999, Amendment No. 2, 2021”. The Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee will consider further readings to the bylaw at its business meeting scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at The Haven – Heron Room, 240 Davis Road, Gabriola, BC. The Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee gave first reading at the regular business meeting on July 29, 2021. What is Proposed Bylaw No. 310 about? Proposed Bylaw No. 310 will, if adopted, amend the Gabriola Island Land Use Bylaw No. 177, 1999 to: 1) remove the geographic restriction that currently allows community resource centres to be permitted as a principal use on only one lot in the IN1 zone, thereby permitting community resource centres as a principal use on any lot that is zoned IN1; and 2) add a site-specific permitted accessory use in the IN1 zone in order to allow the Gabriola Island Recycling Organization (GIRO) (map below) to repair and process used items into usable goods that the recycling centre can sell. The GIRO property is located at 700 Tin Can Alley, Gabriola Island, and is legally described as: PID: 023-005-637, LOT C SECTION 19 GABRIOLA ISLAND NANAIMO DISTRICT PLAN VIP60373 The location of the subject property is shown on the sketch map below: The public hearing is being waived under the authority granted in Sections 464(2) and 467 of the Local Government Act that states that a local government may waive the holding of a public hearing on a proposed bylaw if an Official Community Plan is in effect for the area that is subject to a proposed zoning bylaw, and the proposed bylaw is consistent with the plan. Proposed Bylaw No. 310 is consistent with the Official Community Plan for Gabriola Island. How Do I get More Information?
