ADOPTED Thetis Island ADOPTED 1 Local Trust Committee Minutes June 2, 2020 Thetis Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: June 2, 2020 Electronic Meeting Members Present: Laura Patrick, Chair Doug Fenton, Local Trustee Peter Luckham, Local Trustee Staff Present: Marnie Eggen, Island Planner Sarah Shugar, Recorder Others Present: Lynne Smith, Cowichan Valley Regional District Area G Saltair / Gulf Islands Electoral Area Director Approximately Five members of the public 1. CALL TO ORDER Please note the order of agenda items may be modified during the meeting. Times are provided for convenience only and are subject to change. Chair Patrick called the meeting to order at 9:32 am. She welcomed everyone to the first electronic meeting of the Thetis Island Local Trust Committee. She introduced herself, the Trustees and staff and acknowledged that the Local Trust Committee is meeting within Coast Salish Territory. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA By general consent, the agenda was adopted. 3. REPORTS 3.1 Trustee Reports Trustee Luckham reported on the following: Attended several meetings regarding Islands Trust COVID-19 pandemic response; Has responded to many questions and concerns regarding the Abrupt Shellfish Inc. application; Has responded to many questions and concerns regarding the proposed Telus towers. Trustee Fenton reported on the following: Attended meetings with the Rural Islands Economic Partnership; Attended an Islands Trust Conservancy meeting; Attended a Trust Programs Committee meeting regarding the Islands 2050 Public Engagement. ADOPTED Thetis Island ADOPTED 2 Local Trust Committee Minutes June 2, 2020 3.2 Chair's Report Chair Patrick reported the next Trust Council meeting will be held by electronic meeting on June 16 and 17, 2020. 3.3 Electoral Area Director's Report Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) Electoral Area G Director Smith presented the following report: The Gulf Islands will see a CVRD 2020 property tax increase of $0.09 per $100,000 assessed value. The 2020 Thetis Island Wharf Budget and Thetis Island Board Launch Budget will remain the same as 2019. The Thetis Island Solid Waste and Recycling Budget will increase from $73 to $91 per parcel, an increase of $18 per parcel. The Provincial Government has extended the property taxation penalty deadline to October 1, 2020. The Thetis Island Port Commission is making arrangements to have a conditional assessment of the Thetis Island Wharf completed in 2020. CVRD Garbage & Recycling Facilities: Peerless is now open 4 days a week: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays and Bing Creek remains open with regular days and times; CVRD Building Permits: Please contact the CVRD Building Inspections and Enforcement Department at inspections@cvrd.bc.ca.
