North Pender Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Special Meeting January 12, 2019 ADOPTED 1 of 3 North Pender Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Special Meeting Date: Location: January 12, 2019 Pender Island Community Hall 4418 Bedwell Harbour Road, North Pender Island, BC Members Present: Laura Patrick, Chair Benjamin McConchie, Local Trustee Deb Morrison, Local Trustee Cameron Thorn, Local Trustee Staff Present: Robert Kojima, Regional Planning Manager Clare Frater, Director of Trust Area Services Shannon Brayford, Recorder Others Present: There were approximately (20) members of the public present. 1. CALL TO ORDER Trustee Morrison called the meeting to order at 2:07 p.m. She acknowledged that the meeting was being held in the territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA By general consent the agenda was approved as presented. 3. BUSINESS ITEMS 3.1 Welcoming and Acknowledgement Trustee Morrison welcomed the participants. She provided an overview of the meeting’s structure and introduced herself. The Trust Committee and staff introduced themselves in turn. 3.2 Brief Presentations Trustee Morrison delivered a slide show presentation with an overview of the following topics: The Penders, their population, and related natural resources A A D D O O P P T T E E D D North Pender Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Special Meeting January 12, 2019 ADOPTED 2 of 3 The relative roles of Islands Trust and cooperative agencies The jurisdiction of the broader Trust Area, the North Pender Island Trust Area, and the South Pender Island Trust Area The Islands Trust Conservancy Organizations on the Penders which are also involved in Land Management 3.3 Conversation Clusters Trustee Morrison provided an overview of the meeting’s proposed process. She encouraged participants to circulate among five tables, each with a staff member or Trustee present to answer questions and facilitate group discussions. Trustee Morrison outlined the topics for each table as follows: Islands Trust Conservancy South Pender Island Community Plan North Pender Island Community Plan Climate Change Resilience Adaptation Participants’ Choice Participants initially broke into five groups of 2-6 members and then circulated freely among the tables. 3.4 Closing and Next Steps At 3:40 p.m. Trustee Morrison called the group together for final comments. Trustee McConchie and Trustee Morrison summarized the issues that were discussed at each of the discussion tables including transportation, emergency preparedness, land use for recreation, and housing. Trustee Morrison thanked staff for their support of the event. She announced upcoming events including a Sea Level Rise Workshop and Local Trust Committee Meetings. 4.
