CALL TO ORDER Chair Crumblehulme called the meeting to order at 10:33 a.m. and acknowledged the meeting was being held on unceded territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. Trustees and Staff were introduced. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA 2.1 Introduction of New Items The following additions were presented for consideration: 7.1 Microplastics 8.3 Sea Level Rise Workshops - email from Karen Wristen, Executive Director, Living Oceans Society Trust Programs Committee - Minutes of May 14, 2018 Page 2 2.2 Approval of Agenda By General Consent, the agenda was approved as amended. 3. TOWN HALL AND QUESTIONS Five members of the public from Gabriola Island were present. Steven Earle – Village Vision planning committee, Gabriola Island. Village Vision has conducted a three year community led planning process which included the topic of roads. Steven spoke about the need for a renewal of the 1992 LOU with Islands Trust and MoTI on road standards and classification as he felt that the LOU limits what can be accomplished because of island road standards. He urged Islands Trust to work with MoTI to change the 1992 road standards agreements so that village areas can be made safe and welcoming to pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. They have met with MoTI to discuss their vision but MoTI is not able to accommodate their request due to the MOU. Howard Houle – Regional District of Nanaimo Director, Electoral Area B (Gabriola and Surrounding Islands). Howard indicated that the Regional District of Nanaimo is hoping for some resolution with MoTI in regards to road-side trail standards.
