Dear Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw Chiefs and Council, 
 
I am writing on behalf of the Gambier Island Local Trust Committee to congratulate you on your recent 
election. 
 
The Gambier Island Local Trust Committee is comprised of three elected trustees, including two local trustees 
and one Chair who sits on the Islands Trust Executive Committee and serves as a local trustee for another 
island. By way of this letter, I would like to introduce you to the trustees for the Gambier Island Local Trust 
Area – Trustee Dan Rogers, Trustee Kate-Louise Stamford, and myself, Trustee Susan Morrison, Chair of the 
Gambier Island Local Trust Committee and local trustee for the Lasqueti Island Local Trust Area.  
 
We understand and deeply respect that the Gambier Island Local Trust Area overlaps with lands and water to 
which Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw has asserted interest, rights, and title. Last year we were honoured to spend 
a day with representatives of your Nation to learn about Skwxwú7mesh’s interests in the Gambier area. We 
recognize that there is much we could better understand about Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw’s relationship to 
the lands and waters of Alt’Kitsem (Howe Sound), and about your interests for the future of this area. It 
would be our pleasure to meet with you in person to get to know each other better and perhaps explore 
ways for us to work together. If this is of interest, we could meet at a location of your choosing, but we would 
like to offer to visit one of the islands in Alt’Kitsem together, at our cost. 
 
We wish you all the best in your term, and hope to have the opportunity to meet with you soon.
