ADOPTED Gabriola Island ADOPTED 1 Local Trust Committee Minutes March 30, 2023 Gabriola Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: March 30, 2023 The Haven, Heron Room 240 Davis Road Gabriola, BC V0R 1X3 Members Present: Peter Luckham, Chair Tobi Elliott, Trustee Susan Yates, Trustee Staff Present: Sonja Zupanec, Island Planner Stephen Baugh, Planner 2, via Zoom Narissa Chadwick, Island Planner, via Zoom Nadine Mourao, Recorder Others Present: There were approximately five (5) members of the public in attendance. 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Luckham called the meeting to order at 10:37 am, welcomed the public and introduced Trustees, Staff and Recorder. Chair Luckham, Trustee Elliott, and Trustee Yates acknowledged that the meeting was being held in the territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The following additions to the agenda were presented for consideration: Add 8.2 Official Community Plan Review Project Verbal Update; and Add 11.3 Advisory Planning Commission Appointments. By general consent the agenda was approved as amended. 3. REPORTS 3.1 Trustee Reports Trustee Elliott noted the following and her attendance at: BC Coastal Marine Strategy webinar; The Role of Fire in Forested Communities webinar April 18, 2023 by the Coastal Douglas-Fir & Associated Ecosystems Conservation Partnership https://www.cdfcp.ca/webinars/ Special Trust Council (TC) meeting; Reconciliation learning group with Coast Salish mentors; ADOPTED Gabriola Island ADOPTED 2 Local Trust Committee Minutes March 30, 2023 Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) Housing Summit April 4-5, 2023; Earth Day April 21, 2023; and Asked the public to contact by email, call, or meet in person to voice concerns and issues, has chosen not to discuss policy issues on Facebook. Trustee Yates noted the following and her attendance at: Blackburn Lake Nature Reserve Beaver Project webinar https://saltspringconservancy.ca/events/list/page/4/?tribe-bar-date=2018-07-22 Received correspondence from H. Holme in support of establishment of protective areas for beavers; Herring Fest on Hornby Island; BC Ferry Authority meeting; Gabriola Ferry Advisory Committee meeting; and BC Coastal Marine Strategy webinar. 3.2 Chair's Report Chair Luckham reported the following: Attended TC; Interested in further information regarding Adam Olsen, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA)’s topic of re-capitalizing the Island Coastal Economic Trust and possible letter of endorsement from Trustees, Trustee Elliott to provide more information; Special TC meeting regarding Protocol Agreement with Snaw-naw-as First Nation; and Participated in Housing Forum Short-term Vacation Rental working group. 3.3 Electoral Area Director's Report Chair Luckham summarized Vanessa Craig, Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Electoral
