As Minister responsible for Multicultualism, I am pleased to respond on behalf of Premier Horgan. The BC Government recognizes the significant harm that came to Japanese Canadians as a result of Provincial Government actions before, during and after the Second World War. I was pleased the Multiculturalism Branch was able to support the National Association of Japanese Canadians (Association) to hold a series of meetings with community members during the summer to offer their recommendations on legacy initiatives the province could consider to properly acknowledge the hardship people suffered as a result of government actions. On July 9,2020, Government received a set of refined recommendations from the Association following their original submission earlier this year. The Multiculturalism Branch has worked closely with the Association as well as partners in other ministries to determine where each of the recommendation’s best falls within Government. We will continue to work with the Association on this important initiative. I appreciate you voicing your support for the great work the Association, and I want to assure you that Government is working alongside the association to bring awareness to these historic wrongs and make sure they never happen again. .../2 Peter Luckham Page 2 Thank you again for writing. Sincerely, Anne Kang Minister of Citizens’ Services and Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism pc: Honourable John Horgan
