Islands Trust Trustees Receive Long Service Awards from UBCM 
 
Lək̓ ʷəŋən, METULIYE/Victoria, B.C. – Today, during the Islands Trust Council quarterly meeting, 
Trustees Jeanine Dodds and Peter Luckham were formally presented with Union of BC 
Municipalities (UBCM) Long Service Awards. 
 
The UBCM Long Service Award honours individuals who have served as elected members of a 
council or regional board for a total of twenty, and twenty-five years, acknowledging their 
enduring commitment to public service and to their communities. 
 
“On behalf of Islands Trust, I extend my congratulations to Trustee Jeanine Dodds and Trustee 
Peter Luckham for this significant achievement,” said Islands Trust Chief Administrative Officer 
Rueben Bronee. “Their dedication to their communities and to the entire Islands Trust Area 
reflects decades of leadership, thoughtful decision-making, and deep commitment to the 
preservation and protection of these islands we all value.” 
 
Jeanine Dodds is a Mayne Island trustee and has served seven terms as a trustee, since 2002. 
Throughout her time as an Islands Trust trustee, she has focused on advancing creative and 
community-appropriate housing solutions for the Mayne Island community. She has also been an 
advocate for the management of fallow deer on Mayne Island. Trustee Dodds has consistently 
emphasized the importance of community values, rural character, and ecological resilience in 
decision making. 
 
Peter Luckham, a trustee from Thetis Island, has served six terms as an Islands Trust trustee 
since 2005, and served as Islands Trust Council Chair from 2014 to 2025. Trustee Luckham has 
been a strong proponent of building meaningful relationships with First Nations, advocated for 
open and constructive conversations with communities and provincial partners, and championed 
shared responsibility to preserve and protect the islands for future generations. 
 
Islands Trust Council, which comprises 24 local trustees and two municipal trustees, meets 
quarterly to make decisions about matters that apply to the entire Islands Trust Area and Islands 
Trust operations. Islands Trust Council receives, discusses, and makes decisions about policies, 
finances, and proposed work for the coming quarter.
