SUBJECT: History and Heritage Grant in Aid applications 
 
 
RECOMMENDATION:  That Executive Committee authorize a grant to: 
 
 siyēye nii 'u tthu sut'ku'luts  siyēye tun’i ‘utl sqwun’u in the amount of $XX 
 
 subject to support of local trustees and affected local trust committees. 
 
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER COMMENTS: These applications are consistent with Trust Council’s 
Policy 2.1.14 [History, Heritage and Conservation Grants in-aid] and further the object of the Islands 
Trust by increasing the awareness of history and heritage in the Trust Area.  
  
 
1 PURPOSE: To request a decision by Executive Committee regarding applications received for the 
History, Heritage and Conservation Grant-in-Aid program. The purpose of the program is to 
support and give financial assistance to First Nations and organizations to engage in activities to 
gain knowledge about the history and heritage of the Islands Trust Area and increase public 
awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the history and heritage under Section 8(2)(h) of 
the Islands Trust Act. 
 
2 BACKGROUND:  
 
The History, Heritage and Conservation Grant-in-Aid program is to support and give financial 
assistance to First Nations and organizations to engage in activities to gain knowledge about the 
history and heritage of the Islands Trust Area and increase public awareness, understanding, and 
appreciation of the history and heritage under Section 8(2)(h) of the Islands Trust Act. 
 
Policy 2.1.14 allows approval of funding to support activities that meet one of the following three 
criterion: 
1. undertake activities to gain knowledge about the history and heritage of the Trust Area, 
including undertaking activities that increase the understanding of Indigenous Peoples on 
the islands; and/or  
2. undertake activities that increase public awareness, understanding and appreciation of 
the history and heritage of the Trust Area; and/or 
3. conserve heritage property, including conserving cultural heritage areas, or preserve and 
protect archaeological areas or locations.
