Re: 2022 Resolution Submission

Please be advised that on June 22, 2022, Islands Trust Council passed the following resolutions
regarding the attached resolution for the 2022 Union of British Columbia Municipalities Convention:

That Trust Council call on the Province of British Columbia, in partnership with Indigenous
leadership, to develop and communicate in a timely way the process and timelines through
which they will develop new legislation to protect and restore biological diversity and ecosystem
health, in a manner consistent with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous
Peoples, and with the involvement of local governments, civil society groups, Indigenous and
scientific experts, and the concerned public.

That Trust Council request the Chair to submit a resolution to Union of British Columbia
Municipalities September 2022 convention concerning a request to the Province for new
legislation to protect and restore biological diversity and ecosystem health.

Please find enclosed, the proposed resolution and backgrounder.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require further information.

Yours truly,

Russ Hotsenpiller
Chief Administrative Officer
