Saturna Island Local Trust Committee Electronic Business Meeting Minutes July 22, 2021 ADOPTED Page 1 of 5 Saturna Island Local Trust Committee Minutes of Regular Meeting Date: Location: July 22, 2021 Electronic Meeting (Zoom Webinar) Members Present: Laura Patrick, Chair Lee Middleton, Local Trustee Paul Brent, Local Trustee Staff Present: Robert Kojima, Regional Planning Manager Rob Pingle, Planning Assistant (Host) Lauren Edwards, Recorder Public: There were approximately eight (8) attendees at the webinar. 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Patrick called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. She acknowledged that the meeting was being held in traditional territory of the Coast Salish First Nations. She offered a reminder that one of the actions of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is to learn more about residential schools, one of which was on Penelakut Island. 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA By general consent, the agenda was approved as presented. 3. TRUSTEE REPORT Trustee Middleton reported that: The ongoing governance and management review is underway, including scheduling interviews with all 26 trustees. The Southern Resident Killer Whale file is ongoing with Transport Canada and the J Pod has not been seen for over 100 days, with inference being that they are feeding elsewhere. Conservation continues and the Trust is linked with working committees with Transport Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. CHAIR'S REPORT Chair Patrick reported on the Trust Council Executive Committee meeting of June 21, 2021 stating that: With regards to the policy statement, a motion was passed to request third party advice for the next phase in the consultation process; Public input plays an integral part of drafting the policy statement; Preparation of a discussion guide was also recommended to help facilitate the conversation; and The Trust Council meets again September 21 to 23 and delegation requests must be submitted three weeks prior. 5. MINUTES 8.1 Local Trust Committee Minutes Dated May 20, 2021 (for Adoption) By general consent, the Local Trust Committee meeting minutes of May 20, 2021 were adopted. 8.2 Section 26 Resolutions-without-meeting Report - None 9.
