Subject: Invitation to Participate on Spill Response Exercise Canoe Islet: May 18-19

Hello Clare,

I am not sure if you are still the best contact to discuss upcoming spill response exercises, but I
wanted to let you know of an upcoming exercise for Canoe Islet. The Canadian Coast Guard,
Western Canada Marine Response, and Seaspan are hosting an oil spill response exercise for a
spill scenario around Porlier Pass. The exercise will take place on May 18 & 19
th
.

The exercise titled Canoe Islet has been designed to maintain WCMRC’s Transport Canada
certification. The exercise will be a combination of WCMRC’s annual 1,000-tonne tabletop, and
the 2,500-tonne on-water deployment exercise and exercising a Notification Drill for the Strait of
Georgia Area Plan. This full-scale exercise will combine an on-water drill and a virtual Incident
Command Post (ICP) considering all COVID-19 precautions. In order to ensure the safety of
participants, the ICP will not only be virtual, but some aspects of a spill response will be conducted
via a series of workshops.

If Islands Trust is interested in participating in the exercise, there are a number of areas that might
make sense (Joint information Centre, Environmental Unit). I would be happy to arrange a
call/meeting to discuss this in more details.

Cheers,
Michael
