IslandstrustIslands_Trust More Information: Notice - Short Term Vacation Rentals Mayne Island Local Trust Committee This notice pertains to Short Term Vacation Rentals (STVR). STVR refers to the rental of a dwelling for less than 30 days. The rental of a primary residence to others for less than 30 days is not permitted without a Temporary Use Permit. STVRs are permitted in cottages as home occupations on a residential lot where both a primary dwelling and a cottage are permitted. To be considered a home occupation, the operator must be permanently residing on the property. No more than one cottage per lot may be used for short term vacation rental at any one time. Bed and breakfasts are also permitted as a home occupation where up to three bedrooms may be rented in a house occupied by the operator of the business.
