Re: Application to rezone the property at 437 Fernhill Road -TUP requested
Legal description Lot 19, Mayne Island, Cowichan District, Plan 23126

The Mayne Island Agricultural Society and Fall Fair, a registered, charitable, not for profit society, is the owner
and operator of the historic Agricultural hall at 430 Fernhill Road (Lot 16 ). The Society also owns and operates
the Gaol, built in 1896 and a Thrift Shop located across the road - Lot 9, Plan 3138.
The Society is about to purchase (April 30, 2021) Lot 19 Plan 23126 at 437 Fernhill Road which is adjacent to Lot
9. We wish to annex this purchased property to our existing property (Lot 9). At this time, we are applying for a
Temporary Use Permit before moving on to future rezoning of the property.
The new property has a prefabricated manufactured building, approximately 1200 sq. ft. centrally located on the
lot. The building is currently occupied as a private residence. The Museum and Thrift Shop structures on our
property (Lot 9) are inadequate for our future needs and the Thrift Shop is in bad repair. The newly purchased
building has heat, water and septic facilities that we need to safely operate the thrift shop and house our
museum’s photographic and archival documents and artifacts. There will be no home occupation of this building.
The Thrift Shop is the social enterprise of the Society which helps provide the funds to operate and maintain the
Hall and the Museum.

Sincerely,

Trish Hoff, President
