October 27, 2020 – for immediate release 2020-23-IT December 2020 Islands Trust Council Meeting Program Announced Featuring Public Session Evening of December 1 Lək ̓ ʷəŋən, METULIYE/Victoria, B.C. – Islands Trust Council invites the public to participate in its next quarterly business meeting, online, December 1-3, 2020. A new feature to this quarterly meeting will be an evening session of Delegations and Town Hall, December 1, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Traditionally, the Delegations and Town Hall portions of the Trust Council meetings have been held midday during the regular business session. It is hoped that by changing to an evening format more people will have an opportunity to engage with the Islands Trust and increase their understanding of the organization. Since April, Islands Trust Council has been meeting electronically to ensure the safety of trustees, staff, and the public. “We usually meet in person, but COVID-19 restrictions still apply, and electronic meetings continue to be necessary,” shared Islands Trust Council Chair Peter Luckham. “The benefit is the flexibility of meeting times and that people from across the Trust Area can attend. We encourage those who are interested in preserving and protecting the Islands Trust Area to participate or view the sessions. The public can watch the live stream, apply to present to Council, or take part in the town hall portion of the meeting. We welcome input, comments, ideas, and feedback on topics related to the jurisdiction of the Islands Trust.” Trust Council works to preserve and protect over 450 islands and their surrounding waters in the Salish Sea. Council meets quarterly to make decisions about matters that apply to the Islands Trust Area, and parts of the Trust Council meeting involves routine business. Trust Council receives, discusses, and makes decisions about policies, finances, and proposed work for the coming quarter. There is also a trustee roundtable where Trust Council members provide local information about initiatives, events, or developments of interest to all trustees.
