Trust Council Receives the Islands Trust Housing Options Toolkit

 ʷəŋən, METULIYE/Victoria, B.C. – Islands Trust Council received the new Islands Trust Housing Options Toolkit at its 
December Trust Council meeting, held in Victoria from December 5 – 7, 2023.   
 
Islands Trust created the Housing Options Toolkit to support housing-related and land use planning projects within the 
Islands Trust Area. The Toolkit addresses the need for housing options with resources and tools that trustees, planning 
staff and community groups can adapt for use within their island communities.  
 
"The development of the Islands Trust Housing Options Toolkit results from our clear commitment to shaping vibrant and 
sustainable communities within the Trust Area. This toolkit is a testament to our ongoing efforts to empower trustees, 
planning staff, and community groups in their pursuit of resilient and inclusive island communities,” said Islands Trust 
Chair Peter Luckham. “The Islands Trust Council remains steadfast in its dedication to addressing the housing equity and 
workforce shortage crisis in its work to preserve and protect the Islands Trust Area.” 
 
The Islands Trust Housing Options Toolkit is intended to be continuously enhanced and updated to address emerging 
challenges and align with the evolving needs of communities within the Trust Area. The Housing Options Toolkit can be

Islands Trust is a special-purpose government representing over 30,000 people living within the Islands Trust Area and 
10,000 non-resident property owners. The Islands Trust Area is located within Coast Salish territory and is the homeland 
to many Coast Salish Peoples who have called this place home since time immemorial. Islands Trust is responsible for 
preserving and protecting the Islands Trust Area's unique amenities and environment through conservation-oriented land 
use planning and regulation, education, and cooperation with First Nations and other agencies. The Islands Trust Area 
covers the islands and waters between the British Columbia mainland and southern Vancouver Island. It includes 13 
major islands and more than 450 smaller islands covering 5,200 square kilometres.
