Dear Director Howe:
Re: Mayne Island – Request for an Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station
I am writing as the Chair of the Mayne Island Local Trust Committee pursuant to a motion passed at its
September 27, 2021 meeting. The purpose of this letter is to request that the Capital Regional District (CRD)
specifically seek funding for, and provide, an electric vehicle (EV) quick charge station to be placed on Mayne
Island.
EV’s are becoming more common and will only increase in number as time goes on. While there are some
private EV charging stations on island, we believe that a publicly available charging station is needed on Mayne
Island and will be an asset to both the local community and visitors (both recreational and commercial) to the
island.
Both the Islands Trust Council and the Capital Regional District Boards have declared a climate emergency and
supporting a transition to low-carbon transportation is a vital role in rural communities. We expect there are
many grant or funding opportunities for this important service to Mayne Island and look forward to hearing back
that the CRD has taken this on for the Mayne Island community.
Best Regards,
Dan Rogers
Chair, Mayne Island Local Trust Committee
