In an effort to provide for a long-term sustainable solution to garbage service on Mayne Island, the District has turned its mind to a solution best suited for the community while ensuring we are in compliance with all applicable zoning and regulations. The District has begun lease discussions with the owner of an appropriately zoned property on Mayne Island to park and store garbage collection vehicles. The District intends to post a request for proposals related to garbage collection in January 2020. At the same time the District is also seeking legal advice and exploring insurance options in relation to these matters. Any solution will likely result in a small parcel tax to Mayne Island property owners as well as a fee for service collection. The District will endeavour to provide a long-term solution agreeable not only to the community of Mayne Island but also to the Islands Trust. To ensure this happens, the District will need time to send out RFP’s, read and analyze them, make the appropriate decision for the community and finally implement the most suitable proposal. We respectfully ask for your consideration regarding the current garbage collection service, as we work towards the implementation of a solution in the Spring of 2020. | look forward to your reply. Sincerely, Brian Dearden, Trustee Mayne Island Improvement District Chair, Garbage Committee
