Dear Sheila,

I am writing to you as a volunteer with the recently convened Gabriola Streamkeepers.

Development of the Streamkeepers Program began in 1993, as an initiative of Fisheries and
Oceans Canada. The Pacific Streamkeepers Federation is a non-profit society, committed to
supporting community groups involved in Streamkeepers activities throughout BC and the
Yukon.

Since 1996, thousands of British Columbia residents have been trained using the
Streamkeepers methodology. As volunteer streamkeepers, citizens are able to monitor and
evaluate stream conditions, alert authorities when there are problems with local streams.

At our August 23, 2012 meeting, our group identified three streams for our short –term
focus: Mallett Creek (just East of the ferry terminal), Descanso Creek (west of the ferry
terminal) and Wagg Brook (flows into Degnen Bay).

In order to respectfully involve community stakeholders, prior to any exploration of these
streams we should approach the landowners closest to these streams.

Would the Island’s Trust be able to assist us in identifying these landowners?

Thank you for your kind consideration of our request.
